The first time I reached out to Zee Clarke, I was in the middle of a supercharged, chaotic day of solo-adulting five hyped-up kids at an amusement park.
I found myself using the looooooong exhale.
It’s my go-to breath. Again and again, because it comes naturally and really calms me.
The long exhale is the last part of the 4-7-8 breath, sometimes called paced breathing by psychologists who teach it to help with stress and anxiety, because it lowers heart rate and blood pressure. That's what I needed. A whole lotta calming.
Zee’s an expert in teaching breathwork, tapping into one's breath to calm, invigorate, and call on as a natural, available tool to cope and sustain us. And so I called on her.

How She Glows
The first thing I do before I get out of bed is a check-in to ask myself how I’m feeling today. Every day is different, and it's important to honor that. I have a daily meditation and breathwork practice before I officially start my day. I try to do yoga a few times a week. I make sure that I get fresh air and sunlight every day. Going on hikes, time in hot springs, rock climbing, and playing violin all nourish my spirit!
Where She Goes
- Sitting in the sun in my backyard
- Skiing in Taos
- Korean spas everywhere
