Spring is Calling | A Pelvic Bowl Sweep for Pelvic Floor Care

Spring is Calling | A Pelvic Bowl Sweep for Pelvic Floor Care

Spring often reveals what winter hides. In this reflection on pelvic floor care, seasonal energy care practices, and listening inward, Sandra shares how small body signals—like sneeze peeing—can be invitations to restore strength and balance.

Does sound travel farther in the damp air

Or are my ears eager to hear

A chirp

The melt

The rushing creek nearby

Spring rushing creek in Hillside Woods in Hastings on Hudson, NY

My eyes lift, and I still see snow

My fingers

Chilled tips

Nose

Still shocked by a cold, quick inhale

But my ears–my ears hear the signs—

An owl sits high in a bare, winter tree, calling

I listen to what’s unfolding outside: an owl calls.

She settles.

I turn my attention inwards to what’s calling me.

A body sometimes ignored under the blankets of winter, and a piling of priorities.

Needs unattended, my pelvic floor for one, calling me with sneeze pees and jumping leaks—minor, easily put aside by more pressing to-dos and body needs. And so I do.

I walk on.

BUT I feel it coming up:

I want to run.

I want to play unselfconsciously, spontaneously with my kids, without worry.

Two girls run with a red brick wall behind them

I book an appointment with a local pelvic floor therapist and call on our friend, Marlene Handler of Lifted Lotus, a pelvic health occupational therapist.

It’s nearly spring, after all. Time for a tune-up. A fresh start. My spring clean from the inside out.

In our Practices space, Marlene shares a pelvic bowl visualization for "sweeping away energy that is no longer serving you." I listen. I close my eyes briefly, breathe in, and begin to clear space for what's ready to spring.

I remind myself to be gentle, to go slowly, to put my urge to have it all done now—for the melt to be done, the cold to be gone, to be able to sprint NOW!

There is tending to do before I sprint.

Spring invites a different kind of energy care practice—clearing space in both the landscape and the body.

I walk on.

Feeling into my own seasonal rhythm, with one foot in winter, the other ready to sprint into spring.

To ease this transition I find really hard, Sarah and I are doing what we do: hosting a gorgeous event to slow down together, a chance to head out to see what's sprouting. You’re invited.
