There’s no better medicine for the soul than to get outside, breathe fresh air, and discover plants all around you that you can actually eat. Sarah Lucas is an inspiring guide for these adventures, combining her deep knowledge of wild plants with her own creative cooking as she hosts groups on land near her home in Dover Plains, NY. Since participating in a conifer foraging workshop with Sarah, it’s brought me joy to go around my neighborhood and identify what’s edible and what’s not and snack on pine needles and spruce tips.
I met Sarah in her former role as a farmer at Harlem Valley Homestead, bringing her amazing beets and greens to the Hastings Farmers’ Market. It’s been so fun getting to know Sarah — she went to divinity school, studied environmental ethics, and has lived her work through teaching, farming, and foraging. Sarah offers private foraging tours of your property: “This is where you learn what is already growing at your home, whether you have a tiny front yard or acres of land.” She also offers group foraging tours and private guided experiences.
