- Description: A simple way to involve your community in energycare for chemotherapy treatment

When you're going through chemotherapy, lots of people may ask how they can support you. While you may have practical tasks some living close by can help with, asking others who live far to mail you a letter to open on a specific week of your treatment is a simple way to include your community in your healing.

It doesn't cost anything but the postal stamp and the time to write to you, whether that's a note, joke, poem, drawing, song recommendation, tarot card reading, or anything that expresses their love and support for you.

We think of this chemo countdown calendar as a practice for layering beauty in your life during a challenging time, like a [pre-mastectomy boob cast](https://www.revery.space/boob-casting-a-pre-mastectomy-energy-care-practice-2-hours/) or [ceremonial haircut](https://www.revery.space/haircut-ceremony-1-2-hours/).

**Energy:** Collective art therapy

**Season:** Cancer season ;)

**Perfect for:** Anyone going through chemotherapy, who wants a simple way to include their community in their healing. It's true that chemotherapy can feel endless, and this is a beautiful, supportive way to mark the time.

## HOW TO PRACTICE

Edit the note below as it suits you (add your address, adjust number of weeks as appropriate, and adapt the tone if you like). Copy and paste into your text threads with friends and family. It's also something folks can forward to others (e.g., parents or partners can send to their friends).

Lots of folks have asked how they can support me in this time. I do have an idea! A little art project…I’ve heard from friends who have gone through chemo that it can feel endless. Having some way to mark the weeks is helpful. If you feel called to:

1. Pick a number 1-12 (if you can’t think of a number, pick the number your birth month). It’s ok to have duplicates.
2. write me a little note and write the number on the outside of the envelope—open week #x. Doesn’t have to be long, could be just one word or phrase or doodle.
3. mail to me at \[your name and address here\]

I will open your note that week of chemo

Each week, open the cards that are marked with that number. Take a moment with each card. Feel the love and care that went into it flow in to you.

Thank the sender if you feel like doing so.

If your treatment slows down or skips a week, that's ok. Open the cards when it feels right for you. You don't owe anyone an explanation of what's happening when unless you feel like it.
